In the summer of 2016 Bold Monday was invited to create IBM’s very first custom typeface family. Replacing Helvetica, Bodoni and Janson, the new design had to work seamlessly within IBM’s existing identity created by Paul Rand decades ago. This presentation is a comprehensive overview of how the IBM Plex typeface family started and is still being developed. From typewriters to computer code to variable fonts.
